Salesforce to acquire defense tech startup Rune in $375 million deal

Salesforce has agreed to buy defense technology startup Rune Technologies for $375 million in a mix of cash and stock, according to TechCrunch. Rune builds AI software designed to help the U.S. military forecast supply needs and manage frontline logistics. The acquisition forms part of Salesforce’s push into defense technology through Missionforce, its business unit focused on national security and defense agencies. Since launching last year, Missionforce has posted 80% year-over-year growth, helped in part by a new 10-year, $5.6 billion contract with the U.S. Army. Founded in 2024, Rune has raised a total of $30 million from investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Point72 Ventures, and IQT, the nonprofit venture firm backed by the CIA. The company was valued at about $127 million last year when it closed its Series A round led by Human Capital.
